The Isle (The Ward, Book 2) by Jordana Frankel
A hidden gem in the ocean of YA dystopia.
What I liked:
This was way better than I expected after the first book. It’s much more fast-paced and packed with action than your typical YA dystopia read.
Kidnapping, chase scenes, fights, prison breaks (sort of), viral epidemics, human experimentation, conspiracies, self-sacrifice. There’s a lot happening here, and the story never lets up.
What I didn’t like:
The twist halfway through felt off. It came completely out of nowhere, with no foreshadowing at all, and honestly felt like a desperate attempt to keep things interesting. That said, it redeemed itself by tying meaningfully into the story’s resolution.
My only other gripe is with the epilogue. The second half dipped into cheesy territory; it really should’ve ended on the emotional high note of the letter.
