Deadpool: Paws by Stefan Petrucha
I chose to listen to the GraphicAudio version rather than read the book and thank God I did. What might have been a terrible read turned into an enjoyable Deadpool experience.
The problem isn’t the portrayal of Deadpool or the jokes, those are actually spot-on. GraphicAudio even went the extra mile with the fourth-wall breaks, tweaking some of the jokes to fit the audiobook format.
The issue is the story itself. Plain and simple: it’s weak. The action scenes are fun, and there are those classic hilariously awkward interactions with characters who actually take their jobs seriously. I also loved the inclusion of Spider-Man. But much of the book felt pointless, and the excessive focus on “puppy love” was annoying.
That said, let’s be honest, nobody picks up Deadpool for the plot. You do it because it’s Deadpool, and on that front, Deadpool: Paws delivers.
